AskMeAnything is a question-and-answer community. Somebody asks something they genuinely want to know, other people answer from experience, and the answers that actually help get voted to the top. That is the whole idea: no feed of strangers shouting, no engagement bait, just questions and the people who can answer them.
Rooms
Every question lives in a room: a small community around one subject, reachable at /in/<room>. Rooms keep questions in front of people who care about the topic instead of everyone at once.
- Join the rooms you like and your home feed becomes only those rooms.
- Not signed in, or joined nothing yet? You get the global feed instead.
- Anyone with an account can create a room and becomes its owner: they set the description, the rules, the flairs, and can add other moderators.
- Moderators handle their own room, pin, lock, remove, approve. Site admins can do the same everywhere.
Voting and credit
Upvote what answers the question, downvote what does not. Votes decide the order of the feed and of the answers under a question: recent activity matters, but so does whether people found it useful.
Votes on your questions and answers accumulate as credit, split into question credit and answer credit on your profile. Credit is not a score to farm; it is a rough signal that you have been useful here before. Voting on your own content does nothing, and anonymous content earns nobody credit.
Asking anonymously
Some questions are hard to ask with your name attached, about health, money, work, family. So you can post and answer anonymously, with no account at all.
Anonymous submissions go to a moderator queue first. They are invisible on the site until somebody approves them, and you see a “waiting for review” note in the meantime. It is a slower path on purpose: it is what keeps anonymity from turning into a spam pipe. Anonymous posts carry no author, earn no credit, and cannot be edited afterwards - if you want any of that, sign in.
Accounts
Sign-in is Google or GitHub only. There is no password to forget and none for us to lose. You pick a username once; everything else on your profile is optional. What we keep is listed in plain language in the privacy policy.
How it is built
Built on Cloudflare. Pages runs the app at the edge, D1 stores the questions, answers and votes, KV holds sessions and short-lived caches, and R2 stores uploaded images. There are no third-party trackers, no analytics scripts and no ad network: which is also why pages load as fast as they do.
Ground rules
Short version: answer honestly, do not attack people, do not post other people's private information, do not spam. The full version is in the terms. If you see something that breaks them, use the report button: it goes straight to the moderators.
