By using AskMeAnything you agree to these rules. They are written in plain language on purpose - if a rule is unclear, ask and we will make it clearer rather than hide behind it.
1. Who can use the site
You need to be 13 or older. One person, one account - do not run a fleet of accounts to vote on your own posts. Reading and asking anonymously requires no account at all.
2. What you post
You are responsible for what you write. Do not post:
- attacks, harassment or threats against a person or a group;
- hate speech, or content that exists mainly to demean people for who they are;
- somebody else's private information: real name, address, phone number, workplace, documents - without their consent;
- sexual content involving minors, ever; adult content outside rooms marked NSFW;
- spam, referral-link dumps, SEO filler, undisclosed advertising or repeated identical posts;
- deliberate misinformation on health, safety or legal matters where following it could hurt someone;
- malware, phishing links, or content that breaks the law where you or we are.
Answer honestly. If you are guessing, say you are guessing. “I do not actually know” is a better answer than a confident wrong one.
3. Anonymous posts
Anonymous submissions are reviewed by a moderator before they appear. Approval is at the moderators' discretion and there is no queue-jumping. Anonymity is for asking things you could not otherwise ask, it is not cover for abuse, and abusing it gets the route blocked for the source it came from.
4. Voting
Vote on whether an answer is useful, not on whether you like the person. Do not organise votes off-site, use extra accounts, or run scripts against the vote endpoint. Manipulated votes get reversed and the accounts involved removed.
5. Rooms and moderation
Whoever creates a room owns it and can set its rules on top of these, appoint moderators, pin, lock, remove content and set flairs. Room rules cannot contradict these terms. Site administrators can act anywhere on the site, including in rooms they do not moderate.
We may remove content, lock a thread, or suspend an account when these rules are broken: usually after a look at the context, immediately when the content is clearly harmful. If you think a decision was wrong, tell us and a human will look again.
6. Who owns what
You keep the rights to what you write. By posting, you give us permission to store, display and distribute it as part of the site: including in search results and shared previews: and to let other people quote and reply to it. Deleting a post removes it from the site, but copies other people made are beyond our reach.
7. No warranty
Answers here come from strangers on the internet. Nothing on this site is medical, legal or financial advice, and the site is provided as-is without any guarantee that it is available, correct or fit for your purpose. Use your judgement, especially where the stakes are real.
8. Ending it
You can stop using the site at any time and ask for your account to be deleted. We can suspend or close an account that keeps breaking these rules. Serious cases, threats, sexual content involving minors, coordinated attacks - get closed immediately and, where the law requires it, reported.
9. Changes
These terms can change; the date at the top says when. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated version.
