Every big system update it sits there saying it is optimising, counts up through a few hundred apps, and takes fifteen or twenty minutes. Then the battery drains noticeably faster for a day. I have read that you should…
Building an 18x18x36 for a tree dwelling species. LECA for that footprint is about 30 here and I would need two bags, egg crate and screen would be maybe 12 and some cutting. I have read that weight matters in tall…
Roots are coming out of the drainage holes and circling on top of the soil, and the pot dries out in about two days when it used to take a week. It is in a north window with no grow light, so light is at its worst for…
Day nine, wholemeal and water, feeding once a day. It bubbles enthusiastically about eight hours after feeding, smelled strongly of acetone for the first few days and now smells more like yoghurt. Everyone says two…
I have about 40 minutes free most weeknights and a small fridge. Last time I prepped five identical containers on a Sunday I could not face the fourth one and ordered takeaway twice, which defeated the point. Cooking…
Two bedroom upstairs flat in a 1930s conversion. Rubber sheathed wiring on the lighting circuits which an electrician says is original and perished at the ends. Sockets were redone at some point in what looks like the…
Two minor versions behind on a managed cluster, about 40 nodes, roughly 200 deployments plus three StatefulSets with attached block storage. We have a four hour maintenance window on a Sunday and a small team. In place…
Flat has fourteen of those glass dome fixtures where the bulb is fully enclosed. I've replaced four cheap LEDs in eighteen months, which is not what the box promised. The nicer bulbs are about four times the price and…
Four months freelancing. I send about ten proposals a month, get two replies, and land one job. No feedback on the other eight, not even a no. It is impossible to tell whether my rate is wrong, my proposals are bad, or…
Customer dimension, about 40 million rows, sourced from three systems with imperfect keys. A full rebuild takes 25 minutes and is dead simple. A merge takes 3 minutes but I am nervous about drift and about the key…
Making small batches, about 400g of cabbage at a time, in wide mouth pint jars with normal metal lids. I can spend around 20 on either a set of glass fermentation weights or a set of airlock lids, not both this month.…
Lines run diagonally upward from the outer hip toward centre back, there is a horizontal pool of fabric just under the seat, and when I sit down the back waistband drops away from my body by about 3cm. Fabric is a mid…
Three inherited carbon steel kitchen knives, all with a very obtuse edge from years of a pull through sharpener, one with a 2mm chip. I need to remove real metal. Budget is about 70 for one purchase. I already own a…
Two offers, base within 2k of each other. One is a senior title at a 40 person company where I'd be the third person on a new team. The other is a non senior title at a company everyone has heard of, on an established…
First proper carry on trip and my list has come down to two t shirts, one button down and a fleece for twelve days. Every time I look at it my brain says that's disgusting and I should add two more shirts. People who…
On my third toile of a fitted shirt and each one fixes a problem and reveals another. Started too tight across the back, then gaping at the neck, now it's the sleeve. I keep seeing people say they made a pattern…
About to buy a 25kg box and I would rather not buy the wrong one twice. I make 8oz jars for gifts and a small market stall, 8 percent fragrance load, and my kitchen sits between 18 and 22C. Straight soy is roughly a…
Pothos in a 15cm pot, roots circling out of the drainage holes and the soil dries out in three days now. It is late October, my flat faces north and gets fairly weak light all winter, no grow lights. I have the pot and…
Currently running a task app and a separate notes app and I keep losing things in the gap between them, particularly anything that's a note with a task hiding in it. Tempted to consolidate into one tool that does both.…
Bought three white oxford cloth shirts and by the fourth or fifth wash the collar sits flat against my chest instead of rolling up and standing. Starch makes it stiff but flat, which somehow looks worse. They're button…
I have entry level 5 inch monitors and an untreated 3.5 by 4 metre bedroom with a carpet and a bed. I can't drill into walls, landlord's rules. £350 available. Everyone online says treatment first but the no drilling…
Planted about 15 small clumps of dwarf hairgrass eight weeks ago, spaced roughly 3cm apart in sand with tabs underneath. It is alive and a couple of blades have got longer but I have seen maybe two runners total. No CO2…
One tab per site, 30 sites, about 1700 rows each and growing monthly. The summary tab currently does VLOOKUP into each tab by name, which means 30 formulas per metric and a rebuild every time a site opens. The…
Finished my third book five days ago and it still has a sharp sour smell when I open it, somewhere between vinegar and school glue. PVA on the spine, wheat paste on the pastedowns, cheap bookcloth, sitting on an open…
I finally sent my little habit tracking app to five friends yesterday and I felt physically uncomfortable doing it. It works, it does the one thing it is meant to do, and it looks quite plain. Two of them replied…
