Is there any supplement worth taking for burnout, or is that all expensive urine? What Helped

Five months into a bad stretch and everyone in my life has handed me a bottle of something. I now own magnesium, ashwagandha, a B-complex, and something with 'adrenal' on the label that I already suspect is nonsense. I'd rather put the money somewhere that works. Has anything in this category done something measurable for you, or is the honest answer that the only worthwhile moves are a blood test and fixing sleep?

Blood test first, and I'll say that even though it's the boring answer. Not because supplements are inherently useless — because if you are actually low in something, you'll know which one and how much, and if you aren't, you've found that out for the price of one appointment rather than six bottles. Fatigue that looks exactly like burnout can be iron, thyroid, B12 or vitamin D. 'Adrenal fatigue' is not something your doctor will find in a book. Please get the test before you spend more.

Ask specifically for bloods. 'I'd like to rule out the physical causes' is the sentence that gets you the form.

I've been avoiding the appointment because I assumed they'd say it's stress and send me home.

The only thing that survived in my cupboard is vitamin D, and only because a test said I was low and a doctor told me to take it. When I was on six things I had no idea which, if any, was doing anything, and I felt vaguely worse about myself every time I opened the drawer. One thing, for a reason, checked again later.

Be careful with the ones marketed specifically for stress. Some interact with medication, and if you take anything at all that's a pharmacist question rather than a forum question. A pharmacist will answer it for free in about four minutes and they will not be annoyed that you asked.

Food, unglamorously. I stopped eating properly at about month two and then spent three months wondering why I had no energy. That is not a supplement problem. Three actual meals was the entire intervention.

The measurable thing for me wasn't a supplement, it was caffeine going down. I was on five or six coffees to get through a day, sleeping badly because of it, needing more the next day. Cutting to two over about three weeks did more than anything in a bottle ever did. It was also horrible for the first ten days.

Taper, don't stop. Going cold turkey while already burnt out is a genuinely bad week and people quit the taper because they tried to skip it.

I'm at four or five. That is uncomfortable to read at 11pm.

If you're going to keep taking them, at least take one at a time for a month each so you can tell what does anything. I ran mine as a six-item stack for a year and learned exactly nothing.
