How long did it actually take you to come back from burnout, with real numbers? Recovery Timeline
Four months into a signed-off leave from a job I was good at for nine years. I sleep, I walk, I do very little, and I still can't read a book or answer a message without a spike of dread. Everything I find online says 'it varies', which is true and useless. I'd like the actual shape of it from people who came out the other side: how many months before you could work again, and did it come back gradually or in a step?

Seven months, and the honest confounding variable is that I changed jobs at month four. I have no idea how long it would have taken going back to the same team, and everyone I know personally who went back into the same conditions relapsed inside a year. That's not a study, it's about six people, but it's six out of six.
