Is a coffee machine worth it when there is a good café 200 metres from my door? Espresso
I buy two coffees a day at about £3.20 each, so roughly £1,500 a year, which is the argument everyone makes for buying a machine. The counter-argument is that the café makes better coffee than I will, I walk past it anyway, and my kitchen is small. Budget if I did it would be around £600 all in. What I actually want to hear is from people who made this exact swap and whether they kept going to the café anyway.

The cost that never appears in these threads is beans and time. Good beans at home are maybe £20 a kilo, which at 18 grams a shot is roughly 36p a drink, plus milk, plus about four minutes a morning including cleaning. Still enormously cheaper than £3.20, but the four minutes is the thing that actually decides whether people keep it up.
