How long before a repotted peace lily stops wilting every afternoon Recovery Update

Normal, usually two to three weeks. But stop watering it because it wilted.

A peace lily that flops with damp soil is not thirsty, it has fewer working roots than leaves right now because fine roots tore during the repot. Watering into that raises the rot risk and does not fix the flop. Water on the soil's schedule, not the leaf's.

Things that shorten the sulk:

• keep it out of direct sun for a couple of weeks, bright shade only
• remove one or two of the largest older leaves so there is less to support
• no fertiliser for at least six weeks, the roots cannot use it
• a clear bag propped loosely over the top for five days raises humidity and cuts the afternoon collapse noticeably

If it is still flopping daily at four weeks, tip it out and look at the roots.

Mine did exactly this for eighteen days after a repot and then stopped as if someone flipped a switch. I did nothing except leave it alone and resist the urge to keep intervening, which was the hard part.

Worth flagging that six to eight inches is a big jump for this plant, and the extra volume of wet soil is part of why it now stays damp. If there is no improvement in three weeks I would go back to a seven inch, or even the original pot with fresh mix. Peace lilies genuinely flower better slightly tight.

One thing to rule out: is the new pot sitting in a cover pot or saucer that holds water? Peace lilies wilt from suffocated roots in a way that looks identical to thirst, and that is the mistake I made the first time.
