Swapped my paid subscription for the language platform my library gives away — did anyone regret this? App Question
My city library card gets me Mango for free and I'd been paying about $8 a month for something else. Two weeks in, the free one feels more conversational and less gamified, which I like, but there's no streak and I've noticed I open it less. Portuguese, complete beginner, 15-20 minutes a day. For anyone who made this swap and stuck with it — what did you add to replace the nagging?

The nagging was the product, and that isn't a joke. A big share of what you were paying for was the machinery that made you open the app, and a library platform has no commercial reason to build any of it. Replace it with an external habit anchored to something you already do without deciding. Mine is the kettle: language happens while it boils and for ten minutes after, every morning, and I have never once had to remember.

Attaching it to an existing habit rather than to a notification. That's the piece I was missing entirely.
