No audience anywhere, no list, and I am not going to become a person who posts threads. Writing is the one channel I would actually keep doing.
But everything I read says a new domain cannot rank for months, so I cannot tell whether writing now is investment or wasted evenings. Does the clock start when the page exists, or when the domain is 'trusted', or is that whole idea made up?
Five weeks in, search is the wrong first channel, and I think this question is partly a way of not having to talk to people. Write if you enjoy writing, it compounds, fine. But your first ten customers this year are not arriving from search, and planning as though they might is how people end up with 40 posts and no product feedback.
Both things are true at once. The posts are also what you paste into a cold email, what you link in a forum answer, and what you send someone who asks a question on a call. Treat them as sales collateral that happens to be indexable and the ranking timeline stops being the point.
One thing not to do while you wait: mass-generate a few hundred thin pages to speed it up. That is the reliable way to convert 'no signals yet' into 'bad signals', and digging out is much harder than starting slow.
Write about things with an error string, a number, a limit or a tool name in them. 'How to choose a project management tool' is a war you cannot win from a five week old domain. 'X fails with error Y when the file is over Z megabytes' has almost no competition, and the person searching it has the problem right now and no patience, which is the best possible reader.
Publish. Aging starts when the page exists, not when you feel ready for it to count.
Beginner answer since I did this three months ago: set up search console on day one, submit a sitemap, and then do not check it daily like I did. My first post took nine days to get indexed and I convinced myself something was broken about four separate times. Nothing was broken. It just takes a while, and there is no button.

There is no literal timer. The official line for years has been that there is no sandbox in the sense people mean - what exists is that a new site has almost no signals, so the systems have to make conservative assumptions about where it fits. What you observe as a probation period is that guess being cautious, and then getting less cautious as evidence accumulates.
The practical consequence is the opposite of what you are worried about: publish now, because the evidence cannot start accumulating on pages that do not exist. Expect the shape everyone describes - months of nothing, then a slow drip that turns into something. Most people I know report the turn somewhere in the four to nine month range, and the ones who got there faster were writing about things nobody else had bothered to write about.

Matches mine almost exactly. Fourteen posts over four months, essentially nothing, and then in month six a post I had completely forgotten writing started bringing 30 to 40 people a day. It was not my best post. It was the most specific one - a particular error message from a particular tool.
