Switched a healthy nine-year-old for eight months. Things I could actually point to: smaller, firmer stools, and he was noticeably more interested in dinner. Things I could not point to: energy, coat, weight, or anything on bloodwork. I went back to kibble when the cost stopped feeling justified by "he likes it more", which is a real benefit but a small one.

The framework I use, and it applies to fresh and kibble equally, is the WSAVA selection criteria: does the company employ a qualified nutritionist — a PhD in animal nutrition or a board-certified veterinary nutritionist — do they run feeding trials, who owns the plant, and will they answer a direct question about nutrient analysis in writing. Ask any brand those four questions by email and the reply tells you more than any review. If they will not answer, that is your answer.

One thing I did not anticipate: travelling. Kennels and pet sitters will happily scoop kibble and are much less happy managing thawed portions on a schedule. We had to keep a bag of kibble around anyway for boarding, which meant a transition back and forth twice a year and a week of unhappy digestion each time.

The freezer thing is not a footnote, it is the whole logistics problem. Fresh subscriptions ship in packs sized to your dog and my medium dog's monthly delivery filled an entire freezer drawer plus some. If you have one drawer, you will end up taking smaller more frequent deliveries, which usually costs more per kilo. Measure your drawer before you price the plan.

Middle path that worked for us: kept the kibble as the base and used fresh food as roughly a quarter of the bowl by calories. Got the appetite improvement and the stool change without the freezer problem or the full price. Our vet was fine with it as long as the topper stayed a minority of intake so the base diet still did the nutritional work — worth asking yours the same question rather than taking my word for it.

Terse: you said the dog is fine. "Fine" is the outcome you are trying to buy. Spend the difference on a dental cleaning and a decent harness.
