Four cameras on a woodland boundary. One of them keeps dying after about two days, every time. Fresh alkaline AAs, a 64GB card, and it works perfectly on the kitchen table for as long as I leave it there. It has turned…
Nostalgia does a lot of work in these conversations, so here is the split between what genuinely changed the shooting and what people just miss. Genuinely worth missing Dedicated dials you can set with the camera off.…
Two tripods. The cheap one is light enough to carry and vibrates enough that long exposures are soft anyway, so it does not do the job it exists for. The heavy one is genuinely stable and has been out of the house twice…
Trying to decide whether to replace an ageing entry level body or just stop carrying it. The phone shots are, honestly, often better looking straight out of the camera. Better exposure decisions, better handling of a…
Coming from a phone, want to learn actual exposure, and the subjects are family, a very fast dog, and city walks. The GBP 500 has to cover everything including a card and a bag, which is the constraint that keeps…
The camera I recently bought lets me choose between a mechanical shutter and an electronic one. I have taken a few frames each way and the results look the same to me. I assume that if one were simply better, the…
I shoot raw on a crop sensor body, mostly landscapes and the occasional portrait, and I currently sit in a trial that is about to end. What I need is proper raw development with lens corrections and a catalogue that…
Flat with a shared entrance, parcels get left in the lobby, and I want to know who picked one up rather than to build a surveillance state. I keep reading that without a plan you get a live view and a notification and…
Mostly a hobby, maybe ten paid days a year, and one venue recently asked me for a liability certificate which is what started this. My home contents policy has a single item limit well below what the longest lens is…
Roughly ninety guests, and the plan is two cameras on a table with a guestbook so people can stick prints in with a message. I have set aside about USD 250 for cameras plus film and I would rather spend it on film than…
I commute by bike and take a couple of walking holidays a year, and that is the extent of the action. Budget is around USD 350 and I already carry a phone that shoots perfectly good video when I am standing still. The…
Client has booked 9am to 1pm, one background, one room, and retouching is billed separately afterwards. I have done individual sessions but never a queue of twelve, and I do not want to be the reason their morning…
I inherited a working 35mm body with a 50mm lens, so the camera cost me nothing, which is the only reason I am considering this. Local lab is charging about GBP 12 a roll for develop and scan and a roll of colour film…
I already own a body I can dedicate to it and a laptop that is fine. The decision is roughly between a tablet based booth that sends digital files and a camera plus dye sublimation printer setup that hands people a…
I shoot portraits at the weekend, mostly delivered as web images and the occasional A3 print. I currently own the cheaper prime in the same focal length and my complaint is not sharpness, it is that the background gets…
