3 chargebacks in one month out of 190 transactions - how close is that to being an actual problem
Small tool, mostly $12 one-off purchases with some subscriptions. Last month: 190 transactions, 3 chargebacks. Two are 'I don't recognise this charge' and one says the product didn't work.
That's 1.6%, which sounds terrifying as a percentage and like almost nothing as three people.
What I don't understand is what happens if it continues. At what point does someone at the card network or my processor actually notice, and what does noticing look like in practice - a warning, a fee, a hold on my money?

The monitoring programs have both a ratio and a minimum event count, and the count is what saves you. Visa's excessive threshold moved down to 1.5% for most regions in April, but it only bites once you're above a monthly minimum in the thousands of combined fraud and dispute events. At three events a month you are nowhere near that floor - your ratio looks scary and is statistically meaningless at this volume.
What will hurt you first is your own processor's risk team, which has its own thresholds and doesn't publish them.

And the processor's risk team usually shows up as a reserve or a delayed payout rather than an email. That's the signal to watch for.
