Cabin bag only, two adults, fourteen days, and we are the kind of pale that gets through a lot of it. The 100ml liquid limit means I can maybe carry 300ml between us if I give up the entire liquids bag to sunscreen. Buying at the resort shop last year was eye-watering. What is the actual working solution here, is it just buying a big bottle at a supermarket on day one?
Careful with the confident advice about the 100ml rule, because it is genuinely not uniform any more. Some airports with newer scanners allow containers up to two litres and some have gone back and forth on it within the same year. Check the rules for your departure airport and your connection separately, and if in doubt plan for 100ml because that is still the common case.
This is right and I got caught by exactly this. Outbound airport was fine with a big bottle, the return one was not, and it went in the bin.
Do not decant into unlabelled travel bottles and then leave them in a beach bag in the sun for two weeks. The formula is more fragile than the container implies and you also lose the expiry information. If you must decant, do it for a day trip and keep the parent bottle in the room.
Two things that get around the limit without any argument at the gate. Sunscreen sticks are treated as solids in most places, so a couple of those for faces and ears do not touch your liquids allowance at all. And if you are checking any bag at all, even a small one on the way home, full sized bottles are fine in the hold.
Two adults, fourteen days, generous application, is realistically well over a litre. Anything you can carry through security is a rounding error on that. Buy locally and stop planning around the liquids bag.

Supermarket on day one, every time. Take one 100ml bottle for the flight and the first afternoon, then find a proper grocery chain rather than the shop attached to the hotel, where the markup is brutal. This also solves the problem of the liquids bag being entirely sunscreen and no toothpaste.

Plenty of 50+ on the shelves in the chains I have used, including own-brand which is usually the cheapest thing in the aisle by a distance. The tanning oils are just more visible at the front.

Any idea whether the big supermarkets there stock the higher factors, or is it all SPF 20 tanning stuff?
