Train seat reservations sold out three weeks ahead, what are my real options Transport
The route I need shows every departure as sold out for the date I want, three weeks out, on the booking site I have been using. It is a popular intercity route in a country where reservations are compulsory on the fast trains. I have a hotel booked at the other end so the date is fixed. Am I stuck flying, or is there something obvious I am missing?

Before anything else, check the operator's own website rather than the reseller you have been using. Third party sites frequently see only part of the inventory, and reseller sold out very often means available on the national operator's site at the same price.
After that, in rough order of how often they work for me:

Splitting at the halfway city found two seats within ten minutes of each other. Twelve euros more and I am not flying. Thank you.

Splitting works absurdly often and I have never understood why the through search does not just do it for you.
