Anyone run a Fifine mic for a year or more? How did it actually hold up? Microphones
Looking at the cheap end because this is for a hobby stream that makes no money, and Fifine keeps coming up as the value pick at around a third of the price of the usual recommendations. What I cannot find is anyone talking about them after the honeymoon, which is the only review I care about. Specifically I want to know about the mute button, the USB socket, and whether the sound changes as it ages. Budget is USD 80 and I already have a boom arm.

Owned three cheap mics over the years and kept one. The two I got rid of were both condensers that heard the whole room; the survivor is a dynamic that I bought for about the money you are talking about and it has been on the arm for three years. At this price the model matters less than the pattern, so buy whichever cheap dynamic is available near you rather than the specific one a video told you about.

Pattern over model is exactly right. Every cheap dynamic I have used sounded broadly the same once it was close in, and every cheap condenser sounded like whatever room it was standing in.
