Take-Two subpoenas Microsoft and Discord over GTA 6 leak

Alongside the takedown notices, Take-Two's lawyers have reportedly gone after records from Microsoft and Discord that could help identify where the material came from.

Those two names are the interesting part, because they are not random. Discord is where a distribution trail usually lives, and it is exactly what cracked the 2022 case. Microsoft is broader: it could mean GitHub, it could mean an account tied to a console or a devkit, it could mean cloud storage. Nobody outside the filings knows which.

What this tells you about the investigation is more than what it tells you about the leak. You subpoena a third party when your own logs have not answered the question. It fits the reporting that the entry point is still unknown, and it is the slow route: a provider has its own process, its own timelines and its own lawyers.

Worth being clear about what it is not. A subpoena is a request for records, not a finding, and it does not mean either company did anything. It also does not mean an identity comes back. Records can be thin, stale, or attached to an account that was never real.
