What is the right response when a driver cuts you off, given that anger is not it?
I ride about 6 km each way through a busy city, and I try hard to avoid conflict — quiet roads, protected lanes, defensive positioning. It still happens several times a week that a driver turns across me, pulls out, or squeezes past with no room.
My instinct in the moment is to shout, and I know that is the wrong answer, but "do nothing" does not feel right either. I would like a considered position rather than whatever adrenaline suggests.
What do experienced riders actually do, both in the moment and afterwards?

In the moment, the entire priority is getting out of the situation safely, and everything else is a distraction from that.
Concretely:
The hard part is that adrenaline arrives after the danger has passed, so the urge to react peaks at exactly the moment reacting is least useful. Knowing that in advance genuinely helps.
