Fixed height desk at 75cm, which is too high for me at 165cm. Current chair is a cheap adjustable task chair, five years old, foam gone flat. About 400 to spend. Either a decent used ergonomic chair, or keep the chair and buy a keyboard tray plus a footrest to fix the height mismatch. Which one solves more of the problem?
Used ergonomic chairs at 400 are genuinely good value if you can find one locally and sit in it first. But do the height maths before you spend — if the answer is that the desk needs to be lower, the chair is not your constraint.
Second the tray with one caveat: measure the clearance under your desk first. Most trays need 8 to 10cm of depth to mount, and if there is a drawer or an apron rail there is nowhere to put it. If that is your situation, a footrest plus raising the chair still gets you most of the way.

The tray and footrest, and for your measurements it is not close. A 75cm desk at 165cm tall means that to type comfortably you have to raise the chair, then your feet dangle, then you slide forward on the seat to reach the floor — which undoes every feature an expensive chair has. Fix the geometry first for maybe 120 total, then put what is left toward a seat cushion if flat foam is the real complaint. A great chair at the wrong height is a worse setup than a mediocre chair at the right one.

Almost everyone under about 170cm does at a standard desk. Desk heights were standardised around a taller average and never revisited.
