Is a Ninja air fryer worth it when I already have a decent convection toaster oven? Small Appliances
Two adults, small kitchen, and exactly one free stretch of counter about 40 cm wide. My convection toaster oven does everything slowly but it does do it. Everyone at work insists the basket machines are different in kind rather than just smaller. Is there a real difference in how food comes out, or am I buying a second oven that fits my counter worse?

There's a real difference and it's airflow, not magic. A basket unit blows hard through a small volume with the food sitting on a perforated surface, so the underside crisps as well as the top. Your toaster oven uses a solid tray, so the bottom of a chip steams in its own moisture. That's the entire gap. Whether it's worth 40 cm of permanent counter is a counter question, not a cooking one.

Soggy undersides is precisely my complaint with the toaster oven and I never once connected it to the tray.

Try a wire rack in the toaster oven before you buy anything. Gets you maybe 70% of the way there for the price of a rack.
