Free editor that handles raw files properly: what are people actually using every day? Editing
I shoot raw on a crop-sensor body, mostly landscapes and the occasional portrait, and I currently sit in a trial that is about to end. What I need is proper raw development with lens corrections and a catalogue that will not lose track of forty thousand files on an external drive. I have tried one open-source option and bounced off the interface within an hour, which I accept may have been impatience. What are people using long-term rather than what did they install once?

Worth pricing what you are actually escaping. The photography bundle is now around twenty dollars a month for the terabyte plan, and the cheap twenty-gigabyte tier went up to about fifteen and is closed to new subscribers, so the old nine-ninety-nine everyone quotes in these threads is gone. If your objection was the price at the old rate, the number has moved and the calculation is different now.
