Getting copied as a small maker: what actually protects you and what does not

The product was never the defensible part and that is uncomfortable to accept when the product is the thing you love making.

What is defensible: people knowing who you are. A customer who bought from you and had a good experience does not evaluate a cheaper listing on its merits, because they are not shopping, they are reordering.

Which means the money is in whatever gets someone to buy a second time. Everything else is acquisition, and acquisition is exactly where a cheaper copy competes best.
