I hire, and the gap is not what people think. What gets noticed is a vague gap. "I travelled for a year" is fine and slightly interesting. "I took some time out" invites a second question.
Have one ordinary sentence and be specific. The only version that goes badly is when someone is evasive, because evasive reads as something else entirely.
