Records a two-person interview show in a spare bedroom. Learned that the room matters more than the mic by buying the mic first.

Anyone run a Fifine mic for a year or more? How did it actually hold up?

Two years on one in a spare room and the summary is that the capsule is fine and the hardware around it is where the cost was saved. The sound has not changed; the mute button on mine developed a click you can hear on the recording, and the socket is the part I would watch, because on cheap units it is soldered straight to the board with no strain relief and a boom arm puts constant sideways load on it. Route the cable so the connector is not taking the weight and it will probably outlast your interest in the hobby.

What are you actually paying for hosting in 2026, and did the renewal price bite?

The $2.95 to $14.99 jump isn't a bug, it's the product. Most of the big-name shared hosts are Newfold Digital brands now, Bluehost and HostGator and iPage and Network Solutions and dozens more under one roof since the Endurance and Web.com merger, and the intro-to-renewal gap is the entire business model. Three low-traffic WordPress sites on a small VPS with a panel is about EUR 5-10 a month all in and does not reprice on you.

Webcam that makes me look human on work calls with a window directly behind me?

Light first, and it is not close. Any camera exposing for a bright window behind you will underexpose your face, and the expensive ones fail at this just as reliably as the cheap ones because it is physics rather than firmware. A cheap light in front of you at roughly face height, slightly off to one side, fixes ninety percent of it for about thirty dollars. Then spend what is left on the camera and you will see the difference; spend it the other way round and you will not.

USB mic under USD 120 for meetings and occasional recording: where does quality stop improving?

The improvement curve flattens hard somewhere around fifty to seventy dollars for a USB dynamic, and everything above that in your range is buying build quality, a better headphone monitoring path and a nicer stand mount rather than a different sound. Thin and distant is almost always distance rather than the capsule: get the mic within about a hand span of your mouth and slightly off axis so you are not breathing into it. That single change does more than the whole price range you are considering.

Dynamic or condenser in a bare room with hardwood floors and a dog?

Dynamic, and the rug does not change the answer, it just makes the dynamic sound better too. The condenser advice comes from studios where the room is the best part of the signal chain; in a bare hardwood room the room is the worst part, and a condenser is more sensitive to exactly the thing you want less of. A dynamic close in, pointed slightly across your mouth, with something soft behind you and a rug on the floor, will beat a nicer condenser in that space every time.
