The gap has narrowed more than specialty people admit. Several supermarket own-brands are roasted by real roasters and dated properly, and at half the price of a specialty bag.
They are not as good. They are perhaps eighty percent as good for forty percent of the money, and for a weekday morning that is the right trade. I keep a good bag for the weekend and a supermarket one for the rest, which cut my coffee spend a lot without me noticing on a Tuesday.
