Rotating shifts every five days and my sleep collapses on the swing week Shift Work
Five days early starting at 0600, two off, five days late finishing at 2300, two off, then five nights. The early and late blocks are survivable. The transition into nights destroys me — the first two nights I get maybe three hours of broken daytime sleep and I am useless. Been on this rota eight months. Has anyone found a way to make the changeover less brutal?

Light discipline on the way home is the other half. Wear proper dark sunglasses walking or driving home after a night shift even if it feels ridiculous, and do not stop at the shops in daylight. Morning light after a night shift is a direct instruction to your body to wake up, and it undoes the sleep you are about to attempt.

I walk twenty minutes home in full sun. That is probably the cheapest thing on this list for me to fix.
