Being able to set the camera with it switched off is the specific thing, and it is not nostalgia, it is a workflow difference.
You walk out, set roughly what you expect, and the camera is ready before it is at your eye. On a menu-driven body you power up, wait, navigate, and the moment is gone. That is the entire argument and it survives any amount of feature comparison.
Most modern bodies can be configured to get close with custom buttons. Worth spending an evening on rather than accepting the defaults.
