Partly agreeing with the dissenter: finished software is what survives, and that is not a coincidence or a lucky accident. A tool that does one bounded job can be finished. A tool that syncs, collaborates and integrates cannot be, because its dependencies keep moving underneath it.
So the survivor list is not nostalgia. It is a description of which categories are capable of being done.
