Which is why the dedicated battery packs exist. They charge while you drive and then run the camera off their own cells, so the car battery is never in the equation. More expensive and they take up boot or footwell space, but the failure mode is a dead camera rather than a dead car.

This is the right framing. The benefit isn't the desk, it's that you stop holding one shape for nine hours. A wobbly desk you use beats a rigid one you're still saving for.
I wore one for two years, took it off for a fortnight's holiday, and never put it back on. Not because it was bad — because I hadn't realised how much low-level checking it had added to my day. Worth knowing that's a possible outcome and it isn't a failure of the product.
Down for the weight target you gave, synthetic if you expect it wet and cannot reliably keep it dry. At 900g with a Comfort rating near 0C you are going to end up in down whether you meant to or not. Just have a genuinely waterproof way of carrying it — a proper dry bag, not a "water resistant" stuff sack, which is a marketing phrase for a bag with seams.
