Why the cheap monitor has HDMI and not DisplayPort, and when it actually costs you something

The cable being the real problem cannot be said often enough. Every intermittent black screen, flicker and mysterious refresh rate drop I have chased turned out to be a cable that claimed a version it did not meet.

Buy certified rather than by the number printed on the packaging, and be suspicious of anything very long or very cheap. Length is the other half: a marginal cable that works at one metre fails at three.
