Why the cheap monitor has HDMI and not DisplayPort, and when it actually costs you something

Nine cables in a drawer and maybe three that work at full spec. There is no reliable way to tell by looking, and the printing on the connector is frequently optimistic.

The practical rule: when something flickers, drops resolution or blacks out intermittently, swap the cable before you troubleshoot anything else. It is the cheapest test and it is right more often than any other single guess.
