Why the cheap monitor has HDMI and not DisplayPort, and when it actually costs you something

The royalty is per unit and small, and it is the validation and the different controller board that actually decide it. That is why you see DisplayPort appear at a specific price point rather than gradually: it arrives when the manufacturer switches to a monitor-first controller instead of a television one.

Also why business monitors have it at prices where consumer ones do not. That market wants daisy chaining and multi-monitor, so the part earns its place.
