It's $249.99 for the original one and I keep almost buying it. I want it for two day work trips with a laptop, a tablet and a handheld, so on paper the tech organisation is exactly my use case. What I can't tell from…
I am about 12 hours into a long web development course and I retain roughly nothing between sessions. I get one hour on weekday evenings, occasionally two at the weekend. Do I push through the remaining 28 hours first…
Day job laptop is managed, work GitHub is behind company SSO, and realistically my best clear hour is between 12 and 1 sitting at my desk. Evenings are two tired hours after the kid goes down. I want a setup where there…
Small cluster, no log stack yet, everything goes to stdout and we read it with kubectl. Service crash looped for about an hour overnight, the node got rebooted by the platform, and by the time I looked there was nothing…
Svelte 5.20 ish. I have a filtered list and I wanted a count of what survived the filter, so: Dev server dies with I understand that it's forbidden. I don't understand why. In Svelte 4 this was a reactive statement and…
We have about 60 components in a shared package. Currently every variant is a ternary in a template literal and some of them are four levels deep and genuinely unreadable. The obvious move is cva. The thing stopping me…
Marketplace site, user uploaded photos, about 9,000 listings. Bill was $341 and I assumed it was function invocations because traffic doubled last month. It was not. Functions were $34. Image optimization was $263. I…
Shooting in a rented room with ceiling LED panels. I set a custom white balance off a grey card and the overall image is neutral, but skin still looks slightly green yellow, and correcting the skin sends the walls…
Small app, maybe 300 signups, everything currently happens inside the request. Sending the welcome email adds about 900ms to signup and generating a PDF invoice takes two to four seconds while the user watches a…
I went through a month of statements and there was not one day without a transaction, mostly between £3 and £8. Income is fine and I am not in debt, but my savings rate is embarrassing and those small transactions added…
First time owning a database rather than inheriting one. The docs show both a push command that syncs the schema straight to the database and a generate/migrate flow that produces .sql files. They are presented as equal…
Passed my test in May, commuting 18 miles each way on a 400 in Manchester, so rain most of the year and about six weeks where I will cook. I have the helmet sorted already and nothing else. I would rather buy once than…
Six to eight calls a day split across three different video platforms depending on whose client it is, and I'm typing notes badly through all of them. The free tiers I've looked at cap you at a few hundred minutes a…
Internal agent for our ops team. It has grown to 40 tools across four domains deploys, tickets, the data warehouse, and a pile of one off scripts. Counting the definitions alone, that is about 11,400 tokens attached to…
First paid product job and I said a day without thinking hard about it. It is 40 small items, mostly rings and pendants, two angles each, client wants a clean white background and files sized for their shop. I have one…
New to waterstones. Flattened my 1000 with a lapping plate on Sunday, sharpened four kitchen knives over the week, and a straight edge already rocks on it. Is that normal wear or am I doing something that eats stone…
Genuinely asking rather than complaining. A washing machine has a motor, a pump, a heater, a drum, a control board and a door that has to survive twenty years of being slammed, and it costs less than a mid range…
Eight months in with a single client who now sets my hours, asks me to clear holiday with their delivery manager, and has posted me a company laptop with their device management on it. I invoice monthly and handle my…
Life happened, then the momentum went. Eleven weeks since I touched the code. It has been running fine the whole time, which is either reassuring or an indictment. Six people still pay, $78 a month total. Nobody has…
First time doing this. The page says "join the waitlist", there is a pricing table with three tiers, and there is a screenshot I made in Figma. None of it is real. There is not a single line of code. Everyone says this…
The headache itself lasts most of a day, then the next day I have no pain at all but I am foggy, clumsy, and words come out wrong. I feel like I am moving through porridge. It is almost as disruptive as the headache but…
Team of four, we merge roughly 15 PRs a week and maybe 70% of the code in them is model written. Test suite is decent, 1,100 tests, about 6 minutes in CI, covers the money paths well. Two camps internally. One says…
Day job went from occasionally paged to a formal rotation: one week on, two off. The on call week is a write off. I am tired, I cannot start anything that needs more than twenty minutes of head space, and twice now I…
The tool I want to build sits on top of a scheduling API. Section 4 of their developer terms says I can't build anything that competes with or is substantially similar to their own features. They shipped a thin version…
I built a scheduling thing for small heating and cooling firms after doing the books for one for two years. I know the problem is real. I have no idea where these people are. They are not on the developer sites, they…
