Wrists ache the day after push-ups, is this something beginners just get

Common, and mostly it's the extension angle rather than the load. A flat-hand push-up puts your wrist at roughly 90 degrees of extension, which is near end range for most desk workers whose wrists spend all day at neutral. The joint isn't damaged, it's just being asked for a range it never uses.

What to do:

  • push-ups on parallettes, dumbbells or even the edge of a book, so the wrist stays neutral
  • if you want to keep them flat, spread your fingers wide and actively grip the floor — that shifts load off the heel of the hand
  • two minutes of wrist prep before training: gentle rocking on hands and knees forward and back, palms down then palms up, no forcing

The ache should fade over a few weeks as the range becomes normal. If it turns sharp or starts appearing during the set rather than the next day, get it looked at.

Is it normal to hate a mix two days after loving it

And write three specific notes on your phone while listening. 'Vocal too bright in chorus, snare too long, bass loses the second verse.' Then fix only those three. Otherwise you rebuild the whole thing and end up somewhere different but not better.

Carbon steel wok is sticky and tacky weeks after seasoning it

Domestic hobs are usually the underlying issue with woks. Home burners can't get a 14 inch pan hot across the whole surface, so the ring where the flame hits cures properly and the sloping sides stay tacky. Tilt and rotate the wok constantly while seasoning so every part gets time over the flame.

Rings or a doorway pull-up bar when I have one small flat and no ceiling access

Doorway bar for the flat, rings for the park. That combination costs well under £70 and covers everything.

Rings are strictly better than a fixed bar for training, but they need 2.4m of clearance to be useful and a doorway gives you maybe 2m. You can hang rings from a doorway bar but the range is so compressed that dips and anything below horizontal is out. Meanwhile a doorway bar does pull-ups, hanging leg raises and inverted rows if you set your feet on a chair, which is most of what you need indoors.

Take the rings to the park and hang them from the frame there — that's where they earn their keep.
