Set your own ceiling privately, as a number, before the conversation. It's very hard to hold a limit you're inventing in real time while someone you love is enthusiastic about a kitchen.

Price the gym honestly against the sessions you'd actually do. Paying 45 a month for six visits is 7.50 a session and you'll quietly resent it, which is its own habit killer. A class pack or pay-as-you-go removes that particular voice.
135 for three pairs of wool trousers that actually fit is not expensive next to buying three pairs that fit off the rack, which is roughly impossible. If the wool is decent the alteration is the cheap part of the outfit.
